Viewpoint URL ? IP address in TD Express 15 / 14.10 ??? - response (2) by Fred

It's standard http port 80 on the same IP as the database instance.
Be sure the service is running. From the linux command line: /etc/init.d/viewpoint status
See the Viewpoint Configuration Guide for more information.
Also be sure you meet or exceed the recommendations for CPU / memory allocated to the VM. Otherwise it will take a very long time to initialize.

Performance issue with Teradata Express for VMware Player - response (5) by m.tahoon

There should be three main reasons easly to rule out :
1. Processor:
Check in Win. Task Manager & Suse system monitor to se whether COU is  always hitting 100% when runnign any operation
 >> switching virtualization mode in VM image preferences from [Auto] which is the default to [Intel VT-x/EPT] Helped to mimnimize CPU utilization within Suse [guesr OS] considerably , i don't understand exactly why

2. Memory:
>> make sure you've not allocated less than recommended Mem. requirement for the Image, also disable Swaping on Host system if possible

3. disk
>> you can check if Disk is the bottle nick from the Host OD resource monitoring tool [as Win. Task mamager] where Disk activity is hitting 99% in processes tab ....... go SSD then :)

Patching SUSE on TD Express - forum topic by garrett@data-design.com

I have the 14.10 TD express and recently upgraded to VMWare workstation 11.  Unfortunately, the shared folders stopped working.  According to VMWare tech support, I need to patch Linux using zypper.  Is this possible?
I've also created a topic on VMWare shared folders.
Thanks.

I just upgraded to VMWare 11, and shared folders stopped working for SUSE 10 and 11 Teradata Express VM's.  VMWare tech support is telling me to patch SUSE.  I have another post about patching SUSE.  Does anyone have a fix for this?

Request: support other hypervisors ( or at least help fix these issues I've encountered ) - forum topic by dkasak

Hi all.
I have the Teradata 14 VM running in VMWare on my laptop. It's a great tool for developers - thanks :)
Could we please have support for other hypervisors ( eg KVM & VirtualBox ) in the VM images? I run a large number of KVM virtual machines on my home server - mainly for development, and some hosting things for friends. It's not possible to run 2 hypervisors at once, so that basically means I have to run my laptop ( with vmplayer for Linux ) every time I need to test something against Teradata.
If people are wondering why I don't just convert the .vmdk files into .qcow2 or something ... yeah I've done that. There are multiple issues. While booting, SUSE Linux hangs waiting for disks - it's accessing them via names that don't exist. I've seen posts around ( eg stack overflow ) by people who have had the same issue when trying to convert to VirtualBox. I somehow worked around this ( I honestly don't know what finally worked - I wish I did, so I could reproduce the partial success ), but then when starting the TPA service, the VM reboots ... back into a state when TPA isn't running. I haven't figured a way around this yet.
I'm not asking for native .qcow2 images. The .vmdk images are fine. I think it should not take too much effort for someone more familiar with how a Teradata setup works ( ie not me ) to load up the images in other hypervisors, and get things working in a generic enough way that people can use any hypervisor. That would be great. For me ( and my employer ), it would mean better Teradata support in our products, because it's not a PITA to test things.

I'm also looking for a TD 14.10 instance for AWS.
Any news if one will be available?

Alternatively - has anyone had any luck running a Nested instance of the Teradata Express 14.10 in AWS?

Error while running tpt on vmware TD13.10 - forum topic by teradatauser2

Hi,
I installed TD 13.10 on vm ware. When i run -

/opt/teradata/client/13.0/tbuild/bin/tdload -f test -u vmtest -p vmtest -t test

to load a test file as mentioned in the article below:

http://developer.teradata.com/database/articles/teradata-express-14-10-for-vmware-player-user-guide

i get below error :

Got CLI error 224 while connecting a session.  'MTDP: EM_NOHOST(224): name not in HOSTS file or names database.'

I know it has to take something with Logon command that is fired as i got the same error in bteq. But when i used .logon locolhost/dbc, it worked in bteq. Here while running where do we specify this paramater ? or there is some other problem here ?

Thanks !

BYNET kernel driver installation fail, after new kernel installatoin. - forum topic by lo0om

Hi

Description:
VM TDExpress15.0.0.8 on SLES 11. After installation of new kernel 2.6.32.54-0.41.TDC.1.R.1-default BYNET driver failed to load, moreover blm module is not present in kernel.

Jan 27 10:34:32 TDExpress15008 S04bynet: DEGRADED: BLM: 140006901 #The blm module failed to load

After investigation i found that blm module is not present in new kernel configuration and need to be recompiled with new source, but it present in old kernel:
/lib/modules/2.6.32.54-0.35.TDC.1.R.1-default/updates/blm.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.32.54-0.41.TDC.1.R.1-default/        (no blm here)

Experience:
I reinstalled bynet rpm, need to create link to kernel source, and blm started, pde - not. After reinstallatoin a bulk of rpm's with dependencies and a playing with ctl, solving BE issues i succeed to force new kernel to work with DB. But this procedure took almost a week of my time.
Here the list of rpm's reinstalled:

tgtw__sles11_x8664.15.00.01.01-1.tar.gz

Questions:
1. Is there any simple method of kernel installation/upgrade without manual reinstallatoin all environment for it (except for PUT)?
2. Does somebody has experience with new security future of JRE8, how to avoit it when connecting to PUT on remote computer?
3. When i install latest kernel for the same DB version on SUSE 10 i do not need to do anything more, just kernel rpm install, why it so complicated on SUSE 11?
4. Maybe possible to disable any OS functionality for kernel installation time on SUSE 11 to make it function like SUSE 10?

Thank you.

Specify the TDPID using the -h option, e.g. append -h localhost

Hi Fred,
Where do i specify this option ? I am sure TPT would be using some file to specify TDPID, but i am not sure in which module ? Yes, you are correct i used localhost while loging in Bteq and it worked.

Thanks !

There's a reason for PUT, it would either prevent a wrong installation or do it correctly :-)

Instead of fiddling with the VM (which is btw probably not covered by the TD Express license agreement) you better download the latest version, 15.0.1.

Hi Fred, Thanks for your reply, it worrked. I am experimenting with tpt as i am new to it, hence i might have some basic question, sorry about that.

I tested the above code to drop and create a table named-employee, it works fine. But when i try to export is using the export operator, i get below error :

EXPORT_OPERATOR: connecting sessions Job step export_to_file terminated (status 12)

Job root terminated (status 12)

EXPORT_OPERATOR: TPT10508: RDBMS error 8017: The UserId, Password or Account is invalid.

I am surprised here as i am using the same userid and password in DDL, it works fine. But it fails here. I tried with vmtest and dbc both. i tested the passwords in bteq, password for both of them are correct. Could you please help me here.

When i added Source to tdpid,id and password, i get below error :
EXPORT_OPERATOR: TPT10507: CLI Error 224: MTDP: EM_NOHOST(224): name not in HOSTS file or names database.
This should have gone as i have specified localhost in tdpid. I also tried -h localhost during build, but didn't help.

You don't want the Source prefix, just fix the typo in UserName.

Hi Fred, that was a silly one, sorry abt that. it worked. I remember one dialog from series "How i met your mother". Ted said that his mother used to say him not to take any decision/work late in the nights as they are wrong most of the times. It was too late night for me as well. :)

BYNET kernel driver installation fail, after new kernel installatoin. - response (2) by lo0om

There is some issues with it :)
1. I cant use PUT because it blocked by JAVA 8 security and i can't uninstall JAVA 8 because i dont have other versions of it to install.
2. It is good idea to download new VM, but i need to deploy it to vCenter. That mean download, extract, convert, deploy, change settings. That is a long process to do. Anyway it is easier than compilations...., but i need to test every new Teradata Kernel as soon as it accessible and it is impossible, becase new VM will not get out for every new kernel version.
3. You are right that TD Express is not covered by license.... that is a reason why i post here, because support case was closed and i was redirected to forum :).

Thank you.
